SanDisk and Toshiba Announces 19nm World's Smallest 64Gb NAND Flash


World's Smallest 64Gb NAND Flash Memory

SanDisk and Tsohiba announced the world's smallest and  the most advanced memory process technology node in the world.It is 64-gigabit (Gb), 2-bits-per-cell (X2) based monolithic chip made on 19-nanometer (nm) NAND flash memory chip.

Sampling world's smallest NAND flash memory device begin this quarter and high-volume production will begin in the second half of 2011 by Toshiba. With increase in production, SanDisk is planing to add 3-bits-per-cell (X3) products fabricated with the 19nm process technology.

Yoram Cedar, executive vice president and chief technology officer of SanDisk said that "We are excited to introduce the world's smallest and lowest-cost NAND flash chips based on industry-leading 19nm process technology in our ongoing collaboration with our manufacturing partner Toshiba" . Further adding he said "Products based on this technology are designed to enable new applications, form factors and consumer experience that will continue to drive the flash industry to new heights."

The companies said the smaller process would help device makers to get more storage in less space. There's no mention of the chip's actual dimensions besides citing the prospect of stacking a batch of 16 to deliver 128GB modules for use in mobile phones, tablet computers and other devices. The 19nm NAND chips are equipped with Toggle DDR2.0 to enhance data transfer speed, and use an All-Bit-Line architecture with proprietary programming algorithms and multi-level data storage management that will allegedly uphold performance and reliability.

Takunori Taira of Japan's National Institutes of Natural Sciences claimed that laser igniters are going to replace the spark plugs that are used in vehicles for more than hundred years.

Spark Plug is used to providing the all important spark for setting the fuel-air mixture of the internal combustion engine on fire.This Conventional spark plugs pose a restriction in improving fuel economy and reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a key component of smog.Now This old device will be replaced by a more effective device called as laser igniter.
Old spark plug is not fuel efficient and also cause excessive emission of nitrogen oxides which is main cause of pollution.

Laser igniter or laser spark plug overcome these limitations of conventional spark plug.Only problem with laser igniter was its huge size.Now Taira and his team of researchers at the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, Japan have overcome this problem by designing composite lasers using ceramic powder.They heat the powder till it melts and forms transparent optical solids. Then, these are tuned by embedding metal particles in them. The ceramic solids are more durable, strong, and easily tunable than the traditional crystals. Also, they can dissipate power in a better way because of their good thermal conductivity.
Laser ignition system is still under testing and is not installed in any actual automobile.
This concept will be presented in the Conference on Lasers and Electro Optics to be held in Baltimore in first week of May.

A new scam hits on Twitter and goes viral. A rouge application ‘Unfollowed Me’ is infecting twitter users, and those users in turn are spreading the application to their circle of followers. According to the "Sophos Naked Security blog", the Twitter scam hooks users by promising to reveal how many people have unfollowed them. The rogue twitter app’s viral attack is similar to the Facebook scam which promises to reveal stalkers.

A message from someone in a user’s network will typically have a link where the Twitter user can find out how many users have unfollowed them, and hash tags .Message looks like :

"58 people have unfollowed me, find out how many have unfollowed you: [LINK] #rw2011 #duringsexplease #youneedanasswhoopin"

It includes a link and message regarding how to check peoples who unfollowed you.Clicking the link leads you to a web page which looks as if it's about to reveal that information — but is actually designed to make you take an online survey instead. The scammers make money on every survey taken. And if you have given the rogue app permission to access your account, it'll start sending out similar tweets to your followers under your account's name.

 If you decide to click on the link, you will be asked to give authorization for an application to access and update your twitter account. Click DENY!

In the past, copyright violations have gone on users’ permanent records. As part of the new policy measures, Google is allowing offenders a path to redemption. Now, if violators watch the “Copyright School” video and steer clear of any additional violations, Google will remove copyright strikes from their records.

Google has also launched a copyright center on YouTube for helping user to tell them about copyright laws and consequences they have to face after violating the copyright law.

How To Change Broadband Password

To change the passowrd of your BSNL broadband login into your account of BSNL Web Portal.If you don't have account than first create a free account and then login to your account.Click here for Instructions on how to create new account on BSNL Web Portal.

Click here to Login to BSNL Web Portal. After you Logged into your account,click on Service Provision in the left hand side of your webpage.

Expand the Service Provision by clicking the + symbol.Now you will get of list of different services offered to you.Click on change broadband Password and a new windoe will open in the right side.Example picture is shown below

Select your broadband ID which is the username of your broadband connection.
Enter your old password and then enter your new password.Repeat new password and click on "change password".

Your Broadband password is successfully changed.

How to Check BSNL Broadband Usage


You can check online usage of your broadband.For this you need a account on BSNL web portal.If you are already registered than Login to your account ususing Username and pssword.If you are not registered than create a free account on BSNL web portal.Click here for Instructions on how to create new account on BSNL Web Portal.

After you have created account, login to your account with given username and password.

Click on the My Services in the left side panel of window.After it expands click on the last link with the name VIEW BROADBAND USAGE.For more detail see the image in the right side.My services link is expanded and VIEW BROADBAND USAGE is red circled.Click on view broadband usage to view the usage of your BSNL broadband.

To get the detailed information about usage  of  broadband click on "view usage detail" Under Usage SUmmary Tab.
It will show you all usage even if you have unlimited usage plan.It is helpful for those users who have limited usage plan.

You can download this information into a excel file using "export to excel" link given in the same window.

How to Change BSNL Broadband Plan
If you want to change your BSNL broadband plan than there are two ways to do this.

First way is to approach the nearest BSNL customer care center and fill the change request form adrressing to 'The Commercial Manager, BSNL of your area.It should be signed by the person to whom the landline belongs.Submit the form and you are done.The request will be processed within 3 days.Adjustment of payments will be made/indicated in your next first bill.

Remember to make these changes atleast 10 days prior to the next month.Only than new plan will be effective from next month.

Second Approch is to change BSNL Broadband Plan Online.
To change the bsnl broadband plan online you have to register account on Bsnl web portal.Register a free account on selfcare.ndc.bsnl.co.in (for north India).You will need your customer ID to register there.Below are the steps to change broadband plan online :-

1) If you already have account with Bsnl web portal than login to your account otherwise register a new account there.North Indian user click selfcare.ndc.bsnl.co.in  and  rest of Indian user click  selfcare.wdc.bsnl.co.in to register free account on Bsnl Web Portal.

2)Enter the Customer Id and Click continue.Now fill the hint question and answer which will be used if you forgot your password.Enter your desired Username and email.Password will be sent to email address.Check the box of terms and conditions.Click on Submit.

3)Check your email (entered at the time of registration) for password.Login using Username and Password

4)Click on Service Provisions and than Change Broadband Tarrif Plan.


5)Choose plan type.Check the bos combo(combo plans are are cheaper).Select Usage type(Home or business).Click NO at Modem installation required(in case you don't need new modem).Click on "Choose Broadband Plans" to select one from different plans that meet your requirement.
Than click on Submit.

Your BSNL Broadband plan will be changed in 24 hrs. and a confirmation email will be sent to you.

Again keep in mind that you have to make request to change broadband plan atleast 10 days before next month.Only than new plan will be effective from next month.

Toshiba announced a harddisk with enhanced data security feature.This self-encrypting hard disk drives is capable of instantly erasing its contents when used on an unauthorized machine thus making it more difficult for thieves to steal data.This 2.5 inch harddisk can be useful for organizations which deal with sensitive data information.

The SED (self encrypting device) perform an authentication process at the time of computer start.At the time of booting if the authentication process fails than hardisk either deny the access or performs cryptographic erase of the full data.Unlike a standard drive erase, which overwrites data multiple times to delete the data, a cryptographic erase obliterates the crypto keys, which are needed to decrypt the data. This means the encrypted information is now unreadable and inaccessible.

“Digital systems vendors recognize the need to help their customers protect sensitive data from leakage or theft. Toshiba’s security technologies provide designers of copiers, printers, PCs, and other systems with new capabilities to help address these important security concerns,” said Scott Wright, a Toshiba storage division product manager.

There are many configuration options which omes with SED.For example user can set to erase the data when it is installed on an unauthorized machine,or  users can also choose to have the SED wiped every time the computer is rebooted, or if a person tries to unlock the drive multiple times with the incorrect validation login.Further clearing Toshiba says all is not automatically lost forever. If a drive is inadvertently locked, “then drive could be recovered with the use of administrator credentials.”

To meet the requirements of Law enforcement agencies Toshiba has built in a fail-safe which would require that administrator certificates be provided that would allow the contents of the drive to be produced.This is done to avoid the misuse of SED by cyber criminals so that they cann't protect their own sensitive data.This way law enforcement agencies could subpoena an SED’s contents.

The owner of many popular appilcations "UberMedia" is planning to build a social network platform that could compete with that popular microblogging platform Twitter.

According to CNN, plan is to attract the users which complaints about Twitter like restriction on the length of a message and how it can be confusing to newcomers.

UberMedia has acquired a number of high-profile Twitter clients in the past few months and is quickly building itself into a third-party powerhouse. The company raised $17.5 million in funding in February, following rumors that it is in talks to acquire third-party juggernaut TweetDeck.

CNN reports that a recent Twitter memo downplays the role app developers have in the site’s massive success, and encourages them to build more varying software that doesn’t so closely resemble the site itself. This didn’t play over well with developers, and given a choice between Twitter and a more sympathetic platform, it’s easy to believe there could be quite a few defectors.

Ubermedia could run a parallel social network with Twitter and provide some more applications for its users.Also a feature could be added that users services can sync with a Twitter account and communicate with users on both networks, while also taking advantage of new social network only features.

Adobe announces  new tablet-optimized Photoshop software, including three iPad apps, this Monday.Adobe is going to release a Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit  which allows developers to create tablet and smartphone apps that communicate with a desktop running Photoshop.

These three new apps are coming to iTunes Apple store.Developer can checkout the performence of these tools there.

The first photoshop application is $5 finger-painting app called Eazel.It lets the user wirelessly send work to a desktop Photoshop app. The second application is Color Lava.It is a $3 palette app that lets the user mix, blend and create colors and themes to export to a PC. The third photoshop application announced by Adobe is Adobe Nav ($2).It taps into a desktop version of Photoshop and lets you control PC documents on your tablet.

Gizmodo wrote about the upcoming apps and the potential the developer's kit holds: "The possibilities of the Photoshop Touch SDK are truly endless. People would be able to use their iPad or Honeycomb tablet to do things like fully control Photoshop tools, from brushes to colors to layers. In effect, this transforms your favorite tablet into a control surface for your favorite image editing software, just like there are apps that could work a control surfaces for music and video editing software."

These 3 apps are not a standalone version of Photoshop for tablets and has yet to be released.
